COVID - 19 Information 2022 - 23

Each year, KCSD takes steps to prevent the spread of all infectious diseases, including the virus that causes COVID-19.

Strategies for Everyday Operations

Routine Vaccinations

  • Your child should be up to date on all required vaccinations for school.

  • Staying up to date on routine immunizations is essential and prevents many different illnesses.

Staying Home When Sick

  • Lowers the risk of spreading infectious disease - including the virus that causes COVID-19

Hand Hygiene and Respiratory Etiquette

  • Handwashing

  • Hand Sanitizer

  • Covering coughs/sneezes

Cleaning and Disinfection

  • Surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected at least once daily

  • Surfaces should be cleaned if someone is sick or diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 24 hours

Diagnostic Testing

  • Diagnostic testing is intended to identify current infection in individuals and should be performed on anyone that has signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

  • If you would like a test kit to use at home, please notify your school nurse.

If your child tests positive for COVID-19, the following steps would need to be taken:

  • Report the result to the school nurse via, via email, or phone.

  • Isolate at home for 5 days from the date of positive test or onset of symptoms.

    • The first day of symptoms or positive test would be day 0.

  • Return to school on day 6.

    • With symptom improvement and

    • No fever for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.

  • They should wear a mask upon return on days 6 - 10.

If your child is a close contact to a positive COVID-19 individual:

  • They may attend school at this time as long as they have no symptoms of illness.

  • If symptoms develop, they would stay home and test for COVID-19.

  • They should wear a mask while around others for 10 days.
